The SME in the Role of Trainer:
As companies scale back in a tough economy fewer people are
expected to do more and more. They must perform. A company’s continuing
success depends on it.
Very often, as training departments are down-sized, in place
of professional trainers, subject matter experts, managers, and
supervisors are called upon to train others. This makes perfect sense as
people in these roles possess a rich source of knowledge. However, sharing
knowledge as a trainer can be quite challenging. Sharing knowledge effectively
requires a special skill set.
With the task of training comes a great responsibility. An
employee’s performance is at the mercy of the trainers assigned to them.
Performance excellence begins with effective training. This vital responsibility
can’t be left to chance.
Working with subject matter experts, managers, and supervisors, and yes, even professional trainers, our How to Train with Maximum Positive Impact® program enables SME’s to deliver practical, proficient and effective training - every time.

Management’s concern for years has been and continues to be;
“training doesn’t stick.” Why? Clarity of message is the main culprit. Also, as
is often the case with training, it’s one and done. There is little or no
reinforcement. Performers feel isolated. They don’t receive enough encouragement
and recognition. Performers need reinforcement. Performers need to know they
matter. Performers need coaching.
Working with SME’s who are called upon to coach others, our
How to Coach with Maximum Positive Impact® program enables
practical, proficient and effective coaching, every time.

SME Trainers need to interact on a consistent basis. It is no longer good enough for a trainer and performer to first interact (meet / communicate) at the opening of a training session. Interaction must commence when a performer first commits to a training session. Without this interaction the training might be on-target for the individual, it might not. This can’t be left to chance. Focused interaction must take place well in advance of a training session. Trainers and performers need to know what to expect from each other.
SME Coaches need to interact on a consistent basis. Coaching, as is widely believed, is not a one way monolog. It is a rich dialog. Effective coaching is a lively exchange of observations, opinions, ideas, goals, feedback, and potential actions. Coaches and performers need to know what to expect from each other.
SME Trainers and SME Coaches need to interact on a consistent basis. Trainers and coaches need to know what the other is doing. They are both working towards the same goal of peak performer performance. They must be on the same page. Their direction and purpose must be aligned.
